Gord Squire is the People's Party candidate for Calgary - Signal Hill. He is in his 19th year as a resident of Signal Hill. Throughout most of that time he has been a member at the Westside Rec Centre where he was often in the gym or in the pool with his three children. He also coached for the Trails West Hockey Association and the Calgary West Little League from 2003 to 2010. He also served on the executive of the Alberta Armwrestling Association from 2004-2016. His hobbies include yoga, running, armwrestling, alpine skiing, and hiking. He served on the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and was the President of its Graduate Students’ Association.
Gord Squire is a tax lawyer with degrees in business and a university certificate in labour relations who is also a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and a Trust and Estate Practitioner. He started his tax law practice in 1997 and worked in the Calgary tax groups of national law and accounting firms before starting Squire Law in 2005. Gord is on the front line of changes in taxation and the economy and and their impacts on owner-managed businesses.
Gord has instructed on business structures and taxation for the Canadian Bar Association, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Legal Education Society of Alberta, Federated Press, the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting and other organizations. Gord Squire also continually attends to his professional development from those organizations and others, including the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, and the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society. Before going to the University of Alberta for law school and his MBA, Gord operated and managed a few small businesses and put himself through his undergraduate degree loading trucks on the graveyard shift.
